Deafweekly did not publish last week or this week. We are on a brief hiatus (break) and will return next Wednesday, June 7.
In the meantime, I would like to thank the readers who have helped Deafweekly grow to this point. Earlier this month, we gained our 5,000th subscriber, and the count now stands at 5,131. I would also like to thank our sponsors and advertisers for making this publication possible. If not for them, Deafweekly would not exist.
On a related note, we lost two sponsors more than a month ago and have not been able to replace them. Early on, we set a limit of eight sponsors so that the ads would not overwhelm the news. It was not a problem to fill all eight sponsorship spots until recently. I am not sure we can continue to publish weekly without eight sponsors and it's not easy because the deaf community is small and there are not many companies able or willing to advertise or be a sponsor.
For example, my own alma mater, the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, declined to be a sponsor because I could not provide specific demographic information about our readership. That is because when I set up Deafweekly, I specifically did not request personal information from readers because I don't like nosy websites and didn't want to be one. I wanted to promote people's privacy, but as a result it cost me at least one sponsor.
And you might think the National Association of the Deaf would be a natural fit as a sponsor, but they say they have a policy not to advertise anywhere. Way to support the community, NAD.

Society’s Assets, Inc is seeking a qualified individual to work as a Customer Service Representative at the Wisconsin Telecommunications Relay System in Madison, Wisconsin.
The Customer Service Representative performs a variety of job functions in order to provide an optimum level of relay customer service. The primary job responsibilities of the Customer Service Representative are to serve as the principal point of contact for WTRS consumers and give educational presentations about the relay system. This position requires travel and schedule flexibility.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Three or more years of exposure to Deaf Culture and the diverse communication needs of people who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing and/or Speech Disabled.
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
